Livia Malossi Bottignole
About
Born in Cesena (IT) in 1996, Livia Malossi Bottignole graduated in Piano (2017) with full marks and in Chamber Music (2019) magna cum laude. In 2022 she gained a Bachelor Degree and in 2023 a Master Degree in Composition, both magna cum laude in Bologna (IT), under the guidance of Paolo Aralla and Luigi Verdi. In 2024 she obtained the Masters’ Degree Composition Studies at Royal Conservatoire The Hague (NL), with Martijn Padding, Calliope Tsoupakis, Mayke Nas and occasional masterclasses with Oscar Bettison, Matthew Wright, Genevieve Murphy and Salvatore Sciarrino.
She is currently a student of the Institute of Sonology in The Hague.
In both countries she also attended various workshops about sound, multidisciplinarity and multimedia with artists like Cathy van Eck, Aliona Yurtsevich, Justin Bennett, Gabriel Paiuk, Enrico Malatesta, Scott Gibbons, Leandros Ntolas and Dganit Elyakim.
Resident Composer at Gioventù Musicale Italia for the season 2024/2025, her compositions have recently been played at Festival Nuova Consonanza in Rome (IT), Festival Gaudeamus in Utrecht (NL), Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam (NL), Musiikkitalo in Helsinki (FIN), Accademia Chigiana in Siena (IT), Brandeis University (MA, USA) and, as a member of In.Nova Fert collective, at 64° Festival Internazionale di Musica Contemporanea – Biennale di Venezia 2020 (FontanaMix Ensemble dir. Francesco La Licata).
In 2023, she signed a discography and recording contract with Digressione Music (IT) and Da_sh Music (ES).
Additionally, in 2021 she won the Juurilla Commissioning Grant from Versoi Ensemble (FIN-USA), and she received a commission from La Piana del Cavaliere, for the project “Coincidenze” in Orvieto (IT) realized in collaboration with Chigiana Academy (IT), Impuls Festival (DE) and Gaudeamus Festival (NL). She has also been selected for the 27th Youth Composer Meeting by Orkest de Ereprijs (NL) where she won the RSKT 2021 commission for a piece premiered during the Andriessen Festival 2022, at Musis & Stadstheater in Arnhem (NL).
In 2023 she has been selected by Hong Kong New Music Ensemble 香港創樂團 for the project “Shapes Songs” in Hong Kong.
For her works she won several competition, including:

Chopina di Olsztyn in Poland (PL), Teatro Comandini by Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio in Cesena and more.
She also worked in various productions, from dance to theatre, with original soundtracks and sonorizations, such as with Michele di Giacomo (“Umana Natura” about Maurizio Bufalini in 2019; “Il ’68, la ribellione che cambiò il mondo”, at Bocconi University of Milan and “We Reading Festival” in 2018; “Leonardo alla Prova”, in 2019), Francesco Dell’Accio (“L’ultimo giorno di un condannato a morte”, in 2020) and Piero Ramella (“Virtual Landscape / For the Rust”, in 2021). This last project has also been selected for screening at PuntWG in Amsterdam (NL) by Miami New Media Festival (MNMF), Ibrida Festival in Forlì (IT) and by ‘Empirica Records’ record label of MID SIDE aps (FG), for a recording and screening contract within REF – RESILIENCE FESTIVAL 2021 in Foggia.
A further artistic partnership is the one with Emanuele Rossi, aka Oroboro, with whom he composed “I SPLIT SINK” released on 14 July 2021 on the Maazef record label (London, UK) and the live soundtrack for the reading of “Lo stupro” – by Franca Rame, for We Reading association’s review for Indie pride 2018, at the TPO in Bologna (IT). Also, Livia has an open collaboration with the founder of Orientale Sarda Sara Svati, which started in 2018 with a movement-based performance at Lumen Festival in Ravenna (IT) and continued with a performance of “Five pieces for David Tudor” by Sylvano Bussotti for SIMC – Società Italiana della Musica Contemporanea, in Pesaro (IT).
In 2018 she appeared in “Proprio Destino”, a documentary film by Cesare Ronconi and Martina Dall’Ara for Valdoca Theater, which won the Cinema del Reale Award at the Royal Film Festival in Corigliano d’Otranto (IT) in 2019.
Livia is often involved in productions from an organisational level. She is co-director of ECHI Festival in Arezzo and works also with istantanea ensemble in Bologna (istantanea.eu).
She is also one of the founder of In.Nova Fert collective, a young composers association born in 2017, interested in “comunitary” music writing as an attempt to extend in the creative field the fellowship of friendship and collaboration.
Among others, In.Nova Fert received by FontanaMIX Ensemble the commission for “Sette canzoni per Bruno”, a documentary-concert about Bruno Maderna that has been premiered at the 64 ° International Festival of Contemporary Music – Biennale di Venezia 2020. “Sette canzoni per Bruno” has also been played in Bologna (“Teatro del Baraccano”, “Torri dell’acqua di Budrio”) and in Reggio Emilia (Teatro “La Cavallerizza”).
With In.Nova Fert, she has also joined other commissions: the exhibition “Le Grand Macabre” about the premiere of the work by György Ligeti in Italy, within FontanaMIX Ensemble ’23 season “EXITIME”; “Esercizio di Pazzia – Lettera alla mia isola” by Museo Internazionale della musica di Bologna (IT); “Voces Naturae” original concert-performance from “Amici della Musica di Modena” in Modena (IT); “Calendario Giapponese”, a Sylvano Bussotti’s work original transcription played at MamBO – Contemporary Art Museum of Bologna (IT); “Dìa Logos” for string quartet and percussion (played by NEXT ensemble and Teté de Silveira), “Tripla” and “Tripla IV” for large cello ensemble, for Romagna Cello Ensemble and 20cellos by Nicola Baroni and a small opera about Alessandro Baricco’s novel “Novecento” for Emilia – Romagna Region, with the project “Un genio tra le dita”.
