Early Earle

virtual interactive composition / musical videogame

Early Earl is a game with a rolling cube on a platform made out from an Earle Brown’s score,  December 1952. The graphic signs of the score are transformed into obstacoles that the cube has to hit in order to make sounds, with which players can create their own composition.
Early Earl is a work-in-progress project that aim to create a more involving and rich virtual environment, where anybody can experience composition in a very easy and playful way besides deepening the knowledge of graphical scores and American 60’s composers.

Realized during Dganit Elyakim workshop “Composing for virtual spaces” in Royal Conservatoire The Hague, March 2023.

virtual landscape 001 / for the run

dance video performance, with Piero Ramella

In a single moment, in the absolute silence of an abandoned warehouse, a rusty metal plate collapses in a lacerating screech. The echo of a distant roar that unexpectedly – nobody could tell when – disappears from the audible spectrum. The sleep suddenly broken by a twitter, somewhere out of the window, in the darkness of the night.
“Video Landscape 001/For The Rust” is articulated around an inner landscape, a specific way of being in time. Sound and image, indeed, allude both to a disposition of the soul and to a rhythmic relation between duration and event, a solution of the tension that falls into an ephemeral composition of contrasts.

umana natura

performance with Michele di Giacomo

It was March 31, 1883 when the statue of Maurizio Bufalini was inaugurated in Piazza Bufalini, after a national competition that saw the most important sculptors in Italy compete against each other. Two days of celebration for a feat never achieved in the history of the city. Cesena leaves a tribute to its most illustrious citizen. That statue more than two and a half meters high has watched the city change for 135 years, but the memory of that marble face has faded over time until it was forgotten. Who was Maurizio Bufalini? Why did it become so famous that it earned such a massive tribute in the heart of the city? To remember him, the show “UMANA NATURA vita di Maurizio Bufalini” was born.
In the year in which his birthplace was returned to the city, the Municipality of Cesena, with the collaboration of the actor and director Michele Di Giacomo of the Cesenate ALCHEMICO TRE company, recalls the life of a great fellow citizen: Maurizio Bufalini. Doctor, pedagogue, scholar, politician, a brilliant mind who revolutionized medicine and teaching. Creator of the “experimental method” a medical approach based on evidence, experience and patient care seen in his “human nature”: relieving the spirit to heal the body. We will retrace the stages of his life from his birth in 1787 in Cesena to his death in Florence in 1875, passing through the defeats, successes and numerous controversies towards his Method. We will take a cue from the words of Bufalini himself, collected in his autobiography, from those of his contemporaries, up to scenes written by Michele Di Giacomo in which salient episodes of his life as a doctor and teacher are represented The theatrical performance directed and interpreted by Michele di Giacomo is accompanied by the live electronic music by Livia Malossi and by a video scenography, created by Emilio Rossi that allows us to travel in space and time, recreating places and suggestions. A modern show in which the viewer turns back immersed in words, sounds and images to make people understand and understand the modernity of this 19th century man who, thanks to the strength of his ideas, has become a courageous innovator.
